TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

We are an expressive species– through art, music, movement and more, each one of us has a creative “muscle” that we must exercise. It is my ambition to provide tools in the classroom which promote the balance of intellectual, emotional, and social growth of my students, allowing them a stimulating environment to express their uniqueness. My goal as an educator is to provide a safe space for students that enables them to use art and creativity as a tool to build confidence, foster curiosity, and express individuality.
The classroom is a sanctuary for all opinions, ideas, and risks to be taken. I incorporate practices of mindfulness in my lesson plans to improve awareness of self and others. Students are encouraged to share both positive and constructive criticism with their peers which in turn, builds an inclusive community.
Through the exploration of multimedia, students are able to let their curiosity lead them on the journey to find their creative individuality. As a teacher, I encourage my students to develop their own learning styles. I guide them through the development of their artistic approaches so that they are confident of who they are and what they create.
